The property is located on the south branch of the Piscataquog river in an historic former watermill settlement in New Boston NH.
This small neighborhood is surrounded by 1200 acres of managed forest and wetland preservation where a rich diversity of plant and animal species can be followed through the changing seasons, both from the property and from the miles of dirt roads and walking trails throughout the conservation. One can fish from the property or cool off in the river.
The house, an original, intact 1850 New England country farm cape with attached barn is fully furnished and appointed with quality period antique, hand made reproduction as well as vintage furnishings. Most artworks are 19th century, all are original. This home is practical, usable and comfortable.
This simple and authentic house has a fully equipped kitchen that is efficient and functional; designed for good cooking. In the kitchen is a federal period breakfast table for two.
The elegant and sun filled dining room comfortably serves six and the table has extension leafs to accommodate eight . Table service for eight is provided.The centerpiece of the room is a wonderful view of the gardens and river.
The living room and bedroom have period wainscoting and moldings, vintage wallpapers and fresh paint.
Other rooms include a dressing room/closet off the bedroom and a small office/TV/media room where music and radio can be sent wirelessly to the dining room from a laptop, tablet or similar device. The living room is outfitted with quality computer speakers wired to the media room. Rent includes high speed WiFi internet and land line telephone with unlimited calling in the US and Canada.
The updated bathroom has a washer/dryer and is fresh, cozy and easy to clean.
The owners purchased this remarkably intact and original house with the intent to preserve it as part of the neighborhood and as a functioning representation of mid-19th century American domestic architecture. We hope that it will be used, enjoyed and protected for another 160 years.
We are looking to rent to a gentle person or couple who appreciate antique homes and furnishings, seek a gracious and authentic country experience and will help conserve and preserve the house, furnishings and land.
For those who wish to work and improve the flower gardens (currently needing help), gardening tools are available. If one wishes to plant a kitchen garden, a plot will be rototilled by landlord. The first floor of the barn is available for gardening activities and small projects.
